One day, a long time ago, I was poking around on the Chicken Soup for the Soul website when I found a “Submit your story” button. I thought, “Sure! Why not!”
I looked on my handy dandy little flash drive that I take everywhere with me for something that might work. I came across a story I’d given as a speech a while back. It was a story that happened when I was a 12 year old kid.
I didn’t think much of it. In fact, I didn’t even edit it! I just copied and pasted it. I hit the submit button and forgot about it.
One day, a long time after submitting my story (I think it was almost a year), I wasn’t feeling well. I was a bit depressed about something. Depressed about what you ask? Another time – it’s actually a good story. Well I was online randomly checking my email when I saw something from Chicken Soup for the Soul.
The email said that my story was being considered for publication in the upcoming “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Count Your Blessings”.
WOW!
I changed my mood immediately! I ran and told my wife and she was pumped! Writing has always been something I’ve enjoyed and getting published in Chicken Soup was perfect. Just the type of stuff I like writing about – you know, feel good stuff.
Long story short, my story made the cut. I was published! Awesome!
And it was in a great version of the Chicken Soup series. I mean “Count Your Blessings” – How cool and appropriate is that?!
Getting published was just one of my dreams. Meeting Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen is actually another one of my dreams. Has it happened? Not yet. But I have a good feeling it will and sooner than I think.
I share this with you because I think it’s important to keep your goals present. Not only that, but to act on them.
Did I consciously expect to be published when I submitted my story? No. But I was there and I took action and that’s the first step to realizing your dreams.
What are some of your goals? What are some of the things you’ve always wanted to accomplish but just haven’t got around to yet? What can you do today, right now, to move towards your goals?
How can I help you in doing so?
