Because We Felt Like It

“Because We Just Felt Like It”

“Hey Sean! I heard about what you guys did. You lived in Cozumel for a couple of years or something?”

“Yep,” I said.

“That’s so cool! What made you guys do it? I mean, I know you work online. But why Mexico?”

I shrugged and said, “well, because we just felt like it”.

That’s literally a conversation I had a while back.

And it’s very similar to countless other conversations we’ve had when people find out about our lifestyle.

If you check out our timeline, you’ll notice we went back home to Southern California for a year starting mid-2015. Then we came back to Cozumel just over a year later.

People that we knew and also new people we met would ask us why. Most people knew I had my own online marketing agency so they knew the how. But they would ask why.

For my wife Heidi, it was because she wanted live on a tropical island and experience a different culture. For me, I wanted to go scuba diving a lot.

Simple. As. That.

Cozumel ended up being the perfect fit for us!

There’s a funny scene in the movie Forrest Gump where he took off running for a couple of years. After he started to get some notoriety, news reporters caught up to him and asked him why he was running.

“Why are you running?”
“Are you doing this for world peace?”
“Are you doing this for the homeless?”
“Are you running for women’s right?”
“Or for the environment?”
“Or for animals?”
“Why are you doing this?!”

Then Forrest answered, “I just felt like running”.

In many ways, I’ve felt like Forrest.

When speaking with people who are strapped down to jobs & bills, it’s just so hard for them to believe that we lived in another country because we just felt like it!

But I do have a better answer than perhaps Forrest did.

We did what we did (& are doing it again currently) to be able to live in other countries, expose our children to new cultures, and see amazing places in this world. This is exactly WHY we started a lifestyle business in the first place.

Unlike Forrest who wasn’t running for world peace or women’s rights or anything else, we ARE “running” for something. In a word… freedom.

The freedom to do whatever we want, whenever we want to do it.

What do you want? No, seriously. What would you deep down really love to do?

  • Spend a year living in Tuscany, Italy?
  • Scuba dive on the Great Barrier reef in Australia?
  • Volunteer at an animal shelter?
  • Start a non-profit?
  • Go on a mission or do service abroad?
  • Swing in a hammock on a Monday morning?

What that thing actually is depends on what you deep down really want. In the end, it’s about chasing and finding happiness.

We often get so busy thinking about getting a better job or moving up the company ladder. People think, “If I can just get that raise then I can (fill in the blank)”.

People think they need more money. And it’s usually so they can buy a cooler car or a bigger house or whatever.

But that’s really not the point of any of this thing called life.

The real focus should be happiness. Start there and add everything else as needed.

This is one of the reasons why I love the lifestyle business model so much!

You only start one to be able to fund your desired lifestyle. You’re starting with your values – the things that make you happy and then build a business around that.

I’ve been doing it for 8 years now and it’s worked out pretty awesome. And that’s why I preach this stuff here. To help others to live it as well.

To help you!

Wanna know who the happiest people in the world are?

They’re the ones that have a strong network of friends & family. They’re the ones who wake up and do something meaningful everyday of their lives. They’re the ones that own 100% of their time.

What if you woke up one day, did some meaningful work that you enjoyed, and then spent the rest of the day doing whatever you wanted?

And what if you were able to do that everyday?

It is possible, you know.

I do it. My friends do it. Lots of other people are already doing it.

Now it’s your turn.

It’s all entirely, completely, 100% up to you. You just have to decide. And then you have to hustle.

Then one day you’ll find yourself relaxing somewhere. And someone will find out what you’re doing and they’ll ask you how you did it.

Then, if they’re smart, they’ll ask you why you did it.

And you can simply respond, “because I just felt like it”.
