A couple of years ago, we met up with some good friends in So Cal to go to Disneyland.
They came down from Seattle and we flew up from Cozumel.
My buddy and I were talking about our unique situations. We both had started our own companies from scratch and had grown them in a relatively short amount of time.
In addition to the income, we both found ourselves with a great deal of free time.
My friend said, “You know what I want? I want someone who’s able to go snowboarding with me on a Wednesday morning. Like, they have the financial ability and the free time to do it.”
I knew exactly what he meant.
Most of our friends are busy at jobs and don’t have a lot of free time to take off and do cool stuff in the middle of the week.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Making money for your family is important, obviously.
But making money doesn’t have to be tied to a job. There’s a way to make a lot of money while simultaneously freeing up your time.
And this brings me to the big point of the Family Rocketship…
I Have an Ulterior Motive with Family Rocketship
On the surface, it may seem like one of those blogs that talks about lifestyle business and living your dream life or whatever.
But my intentions go deeper than that.
Not too long ago, I was speaking with my friend Dan who had taken my online marketing business course and successfully started his own business. (I mean, the dude’s making real money now that’s not connected to a job – how awesome is that?!)
I told him I actually have really selfish ulterior motives.
I said, “I’m really just trying to help people create their own lifestyle businesses so that we have cool people to hang out with!”
I want to be able to take off on a weekday for a trip to the mountains with some buddies.
Or maybe go to an afternoon baseball game with our kids.
Or maybe go live in another country for a while…
This is my true intention with the Family Rocketship – to liberate cool people to do cool stuff!
I want to recruit an entire army of people that aren’t bound to the old model of trading time for dollars.
People that aren’t stuck giving their best waking hours to a boss.
People that have full flexibility of time, income, and mobility.
In a word, people that have freedom.
I Used to Be a Loser
Not too many years ago, I was a loser. A total wannabe. Seriously.
I was in over $10k of debt and I was barely making enough money for my family to survive.
I tried everything I could to make more money from affiliate marketing to life coaching to MLM. Ugh! It hurts to even write out that last sentence – so embarrassing! But I’m getting real here!
After getting laid off from what would be my last job ever, we decided to do something drastic.
We sold pretty much everything we owned. We put our photos, yearbooks, and stuff like that in a 5 x 5 storage unit.
We left our Orange County life behind for a while to experience some new adventures.
After a year in Seattle and another year in the San Francisco Bay Area to build the business, we took off to Cozumel, Mexico.
Why? We just wanted to go “somewhere tropical” and to do something fun. That’s about it.
The successful lifestyle business that we created paid for it all.
After 2 ½ amazing years of life in Mexico, we said adios and flew to Europe. We spent 5 months in Spain, England, Scotland, Switzerland, and Italy.
After our fill of castles and historic cities, we flew back to the states. Now we’re taking a “breather” by living stateside for a while before the next adventure. (UPDATE APRIL 21 2017 – We’re back living in Cozumel for a while. In two weeks, we leave again to Europe for the summer & then back to the island for a couple of school years.)
Every day I get to do what I want to do together with my family. I don’t think I could write a more fulfilling sentence than that!
What Are You Going to Do?
I share this all with you to let you know that if a schmuck like me can do it, you can too!
Your story will be different than mine.
Maybe you go live in on an island in the Caribbean or maybe you don’t.
It doesn’t matter what you do so long as you create a life that you’re utterly in love with.
At a fundamental level, you have to decide what life is for you.
Is life simply something meant to be endured or tolerated?
Or is it something more?
For me, I view life as a really fun adventure. That’s my perspective and it affects everything I do – from my interaction with my children to how I spend my time even to how I make money.
I’ve already told you, my goal here is to recruit you into the “cool club”. The club of awesome people who have the time and money to do what they want, whenever they want.
It takes some hustle, sure. There are no free passes here. You’re going to have to work.
But it’s totally worth it.
It all goes back to one of my main themes here at Family Rocketship:
Identify your highest values, set goals to live your dream life based on those values, and pay for it all with a lifestyle business that you create.
It really works.
